Grilled Chicken with an elegant kick: Garlic Thyme Chicken Burger Recipe

by Clipinista on June 23, 2012

I am not much of a cook or photographer but I must say I was pretty impressed by the dinner I made tonight! I am not the type to “follow a recipe” I get bored really quick and don’t have all of the tools or necessary ingredients to “follow recipes”. So, the majority of recipes are taken from 1 or more recipes I came across online and when I don’t have ingredients or tools I substitute the best I can…

I have tried to make ground chicken burgers before but they were not pretty… literally they fell apart on while I was grilling them! Well this time I learned from my mistakes and ended up with a delicious, not to mention aesthetically pleasing dinner!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of ground chicken
  • 1/2 red pepper
  • 1/2 onion
  • 3 pieces of  thyme
  • 5 garlic gloves
  • 1 tsp mayo
  • 2 tsp of plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 slice of tomato for each burger (optional)
  • Burger buns
  • Arugula/roman/iceberg (whatever lettuce you like)
  • Provolone or Favorite cheese

1. Dice 2 garlic gloves, 1/2 of red pepper and split your half of onion into 1/2 (put other half aside). Dice these ingredients into very small pieces. I used my vegetable mincer. Mix the diced veggies, 1 tsp of greek yogurt and the ground chicken together (you can add a binder to the mixture such as egg and flour, breadcrumbs or cornmeal). Do not over work. Separate into patties.

2. I did not use a binder so my chicken patties were almost falling apart. I popped them in the freezer for half an hour.

3. While your Chicken patties are in the freezer make the Garlic, thyme mayo that will act as a dressing on the burger bun. Mince the remaining garlic and thyme leaves. Mix them with the mayo and yogurt. Store in a cool place until you are ready to use.

4. You can grill these burgers, bake them or fry them. I suggest putting a little olive oil on the sides to keep them from sticking. Cook until the meat is about 170 degrees F. Add some cheese and your burger set up.

The Garlic Thyme mayo was very savory. It was a little spicy because of the garlic but so rich and creamy because of the added Greek yogurt. The recipe I originally found called for ALL mayo. I thought the Greek yogurt it gave it a healthy kick.

When you slice the burger in half you can see the red peppers and onions. It looks like something you would get a fancy restaurant. You are sure to impress guests, family and even yourself!
